HOWTO: Get rid of that revolting faux-3D Dock in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

October 29, 2007

I don't know what the folks at Apple were smoking when they decided to build that ugly, glassy fake 3D Dock into Leopard. There is no way in hell that I'm going to look at that every day for the next two years. Fortunately, there appears to be a solution. At the Unix prompt, type:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES
killall Dock

Now, when the Dock is positioned at the bottom, it takes on the somewhat less abrasive look it has when attached to the sides of the screen. It's still ugly, but I'll be able to live with it until Apple releases 10.6.
